The Burning Sea 2021 Movie – Storyline :

In 1969, Norway announces its discovery of one of the world’s largest oil fields in the North Sea near them and starts a successful period of offshore drilling. 50 years later, environmental consequences begin to surface – cracks have opened on the ocean floor causing an oil rig to collapse and eventually vanish altogether. Submariner Sofia and her team of researchers rush in to search for missing persons and assess the damage, only to realize this could be just the start of an impending apocalyptic catastrophe. Oil rigs evacuate, Stian becomes trapped at sea depths, forcing Sofia into action in order to rescue her friend – THE BURNING SEA is another thrilling disaster epic from the team behind The Quake (2018) and The Wave (2015).

Review of The Burning Sea (2021 Movie):

Excellent movie that promises even more from its trailer. Norway has certainly made strides recently when it comes to disaster films; first, there was 2015’s Bolgen (aka The Wave), followed by 2018’s Skjelvet (The Quake), and now 2021 with Nordsjoen (aka The Burning Sea).

“Nordsjoen” proved equally enjoyable for me and its writers Harald Rosenlow-Eeg and Lars Gudmestad were masterminds at creating an interesting plotline; though there wasn’t as much destruction and mayhem as other movies I have watched this summer, its story-driven structure added by natural disaster made this enjoyable nonetheless.

Personally, it seemed unfair that more attention wasn’t put on the devasting forces behind this disaster – I expected more focus to be given.
