Fox portrays a demonically possessed high school girl who kills her male classmates, with her best friend striving to stop her. The title is a reference to the song of the same name by the alternative rock band Hole on their album Live Through This. As a tie-in to the film, Boom! Studios produced Jennifer’s Body graphic novel, released in August 2009.

Working with Cody again following their collaborative efforts on the film Juno, Jason Reitman stated he and his producers “want to make unusual films”.^[5] Cody said she wanted the film to speak to female empowerment and explore the complex relationships between best friends

Nerdy, reserved bookworm Needy Lesnicki, and arrogant, conceited cheerleader Jennifer Check are best friends, though they share little in common. They share even less in common when Jennifer mysteriously gains an appetite for human blood after a disastrous fire at a local bar. As Needy’s male classmates are steadily killed in gruesome attacks, the young girl must uncover the truth behind her friend’s transformation and find a way to stop the bloodthirsty rampage before it reaches her own boyfriend Chip.

Diablo Cody has stated that she never intended for this film to fall under the category of horror, yet this has happened anyway. Instead, this dark comedy makes an excellent viewing experience. Dialogue in this movie is highly quotable, and those who appreciate sarcasm like me will especially love this flick. Even so-called frightening scenes were far from scary; rather there was plenty of over-the-top gore; in essence, this flick is meant as a parody on teenage horror flicks. Emo Teen plays off of emo culture to provide ironic humor that’ll have you laughing when least expected – plus has an impressive soundtrack. I recommend renting it as part of your movie night-in entertainment; you will certainly be entertained! Remember this comic gem contains lots of wit and shouldn’t scare or worry you. Simply enjoy its entertainment value.
