Kunlun Tribulation: Mermaid Tears” is an action fantasy film directed by Qin Pengfei that stars Yao Xingtong, Cui Yongxuan, Cheng Qimeng, Chen Haowen, Xu Zhanwei, and Shi Xuanru among many other famous actors. “Kunlun Tribulation: Shark’s Tears” shows us various forms of character expression; for instance, protagonist Luo Xi played by Yao Xingtong is especially notable. Luo Xi in the movie was an impoverished woman whose father did his utmost to save her when the Head of the Kunlun faction ordered his disciples to capture and destroy mermen tears by harvesting tears collected by Kunlun disciples. Luo Xi’s life wasn’t very easy in the film; she finally met someone she felt could help make up for all she has endured in life so far. However, her romantic journey wasn’t an easy one either, with numerous obstacles along the way and internal struggles coming between love and relationship fulfillment. As Luo Xi’s lover is the son of the Kunlun Sect leader who spearheaded her father’s murder and extermination from her clan, this can only increase tensions. There appears to be strong animus between Luo Xi and Kunlun Sect lead. Moved by his affection, Lu Chan sacrificed his mana and used a final tear from a mermaid as an offer of love to save her beloved wife from Lu’s attack, thus fulfilling their love arc and creating such happiness between the characters. We see their happy end together.
