Review of 2022 Netflix Series: The Watcher (Season 1) –

“The Watcher”, unfortunately, wasn’t anything special; instead it simply has all of the basic ingredients of a standard horror/scary movie: family moving into a big old house with strange neighbors; teenage kids; father losing control and becoming estranged from his family; etc…I won’t spoil what happens at the end but expect similar events throughout series – don’t expect James Wong-type moments — just some casual entertainment on an otherwise dull evening together on the couch with loved one nearby! Do you really want to watch this boring Series? Sure you want this boring Series?

The Watcher makes Desperate Housewives look like a documentary. With situations so absurd and characters so cartoonish that it is hard to think of this show as “real”, and acting so outlandish it becomes impossible for one person’s storyline to make sense without some form of commonsense or trust between family members. Each plot twist comes at you fast enough that at the end of every episode, all you do is press NEXT! Jennifer Coolidge embraces its campiness but the main couple remain so unlikeable that all you want them out!
