Carl Fredricksen (Ed Asner) and Russell (Jordan Nagai). Carl sets off on an expedition using thousands of balloons tied to his house as part of fulfilling a promise he made to Ellie after she passed. This film was directed and co-directed by Bob Peterson; who co-wrote both screenplay and story with Tom McCarthy; music was composed by Michael Giacchino.

Docter first began crafting his storyline in 2004, which explored fantasies about escape from everyday life when things became too annoying to bear. With eleven other Pixar artists, they spent three days traveling around Venezuela collecting research and gathering inspiration; character designs featured caricatured and stylized characteristics while animators faced unique challenges when creating realistic clothes for animation purposes.
