Blood Quantum 2019 Movie – Storyline :

Blood quantum” refers to a colonial blood measurement system used to establish one’s Indigenous status and has long been seen as an instrument of control and oppression against Indigenous communities. Jeff Barnaby’s sophomore feature film takes these words even further to portray an apocalyptic scenario, depicting an isolated Mi’gmaq community as they discover they are the only humans immune from an onslaught of zombies. As residents from surrounding cities seek refuge at Mi’gmaq reserve to escape an outbreak, the community must decide if to open up its borders – risking not just their tribe but humanity itself if necessary. Barnaby’s highly critical portrayal of postcolonial Indigenous life and culture depicted in Rhymes for Young Ghouls resonates powerfully here as it collides with the characteristic iconography and violence inherent to zombie fiction. Undead are dispatched using swords, chainsaws, shotguns, and makeshift axes in spectacular and grisly fashion while the living (led by Michael Greyeyes of Woman Walks Ahead and Fear the Walking Dead fame) must bear with paranoia brought about by such dire conditions. Barnaby utilizes zombie movies as a medium for cultural critique, delving deep into topics such as racism and colonialism – while also exploring threats such as Indigenous communities’ imminent extinction that they’ve endured over generations. Blood Quantum_ (qv), enhanced with stunning animated chapter breaks that inject its horrific proceedings with comic-book flair, stands as one of the strongest entries into zombie cinema history; equaling George Romero’s 1968 original Night of the Living Dead for sheer horror-film impact and showing that marginalized voices, when given an opportunity, can breathe new life into tired genres like horror filmmaking. Review of Blood Quantum (2019 Movie):

Few indigenous fellas r immune to a virus that turns people into bloodthirsty zombies but they r threatened by the large no of outsiders seeking refuge in their reserved colonies.
The film has some impressive gory kills and moves at a steady pace but the dark shots (mostly nighttime scenes) make it troublesome. Wud have been ok if it were a vampire flick but zombies need to b shown in broad daylight.
There is a disturbing scene where an infected mother eats her baby, it is copied from David Cronenberg’s Rabid.
